Cleaning Job With No Payslip — What Are My Rights?

No payslip is a red flag, not a minor oversight. In the cleaning industry, employers who don't provide payslips are almost always underpaying. The payslip is the evidence trail — without it, you can't verify your rate, your hours, your penalties, or your super. That's exactly why some employers don't give them.

Worked example

Scenario: A cleaner works 25 hours/week across 5 shifts, paid $500 cash weekly. No payslip, no super. They think they're earning $20/hr.

Problem 1: No payslip — breach of the Fair Work Act

Problem 2: $20/hr is below the Level 1 minimum of ~$25.85/hr — underpaid $5.85/hr

Problem 3: No super — missing 12% ($60/week)

Without a payslip, this worker couldn't see any of these problems. Total underpayment: ~$178/week, $9,280/year.

What should a cleaning payslip include?

No payslip means I can't prove my hours — what do I do?

Keep your own records. Write down your start and finish times daily. Save text messages from your employer about shifts. Screenshot roster apps. Bank transfer records showing payment amounts and dates are strong evidence. The Fair Work Ombudsman can also compel employers to produce records.
